## How many .ai domains are registered?

More than 1 million. The Government of Anguilla announced on social media that the register passed that mark on 20 January 2026, and Domain Name Wire and DomainIncite reported it. Domain Name Wire adds that the count grew about 67% over the previous year.

## How much money does Anguilla make from .ai?

EC$230.5 million in 2025, which is US$85.3 million. Anguilla Focus obtained the monthly Ministry of Finance figures and reported that 2025 more than doubled 2024 and nearly tripled 2023. The IMF says that before the surge, .ai was about 5% of government revenue.

The periods differ and the sources count collections in their own way, so the rows are not additive. At the roughly 2.70 EC$ per US$ implied by Anguilla Focus' headline figures, 104.25 million is about US$39 million, which matches The National.

The government says the money has paid for airport and road work, tax relief for residents and health services. Domain Name Wire notes that Anguilla has about 15,000 residents. It also reports that Identity Digital, which runs .ai, takes a 10% revenue share, and that the rest goes to the government.

## How has the .ai wholesale price changed?

It rose once in the sources we could find. On 5 March 2026 the wholesale price went from $70 to $80 a year, or from $140 to $160 for the 2-year minimum. That is a rise of $10 a year, or 14%. Domain Name Wire reported it on 2 February 2026. DomainIncite put the rise at 14.3%.

According to Pearlcay's price check of 2 November 2026, the 7 registrars with a clear .ai price in US dollars charged $79.98 to $99.99 for the first year, a spread of 25%, and 6 of the 7 renewed at the same price.

Pearlcay sells a .ai at $86.99/year, so the first order is $173.98. We found no sourced wholesale price before the $70, so the table shows no earlier history. The range covers registrars with a clear price in dollars. Gandi (euros, renewal line unclear) is left out, and Namecheap's renewal is $114.98 against $89.98 for the first year.

## Who runs .ai, and what are its rules?

The Government of Anguilla is the registry. Identity Digital operates it under a five-year agreement signed in October 2024, and .ai moved to its platform in January 2025.

## What do the numbers say together?

Three links, in our arithmetic.

- **Names and revenue grew together.** Names went from 354,000 in 2023 to over 1 million in January 2026, a factor of about 2.8. Revenue went from EC$87 million in 2023 to EC$230.5 million in 2025, a factor of about 2.6.
- **The price rose while the register grew.** The 14% rise of 5 March 2026 came 44 days after the 1 million mark, in a year when the register grew about 67%.
- **The buyer sits at the end of the chain.** Of the $80 wholesale fee, the reported 10% share means about $8 for the operator and about $72 for Anguilla. A registrar adds its own price. At Pearlcay a .ai costs $86.99/year, the first order is $173.98, and 10 years cost $869.90.

## Which figures did we leave out?

A statistics page is only as good as what it refuses to print.

- **A US$70 million estimate.** Sherwood News estimated about US$70 million on 23 January 2026. It derives the figure from a budget forecast and an assumed share, not from reported revenue, so we use the Ministry of Finance figures instead.
- **A 587,000 count a year before the milestone.** DomainIncite gave it. Domain Name Wire reports an official count of 598,007 on 2 January 2025, and we use that.
- **Currencies the source does not print.** Anguilla Focus gives 2023 and 2024 without a currency, so those years rest on the IMF and The National.
- **Resale prices.** What a single name sells for on the aftermarket is not a registry statistic.
- **Price history before $70.** We found no sourced wholesale price earlier than the one the 2026 rise replaced.
